Fire brigade fights disasters with mobile crisis cases

In order to be able to provide aid efficiently and safely during a major crisis or disaster, the Westhoek fire service relies on the mobile crisis cases of e-BO Enterprises. The Emergency & Intervention Planning workgroup and the ICT department of the fire brigade zone joined forces with e-BO Enterprises to achieve a result that met all requirements.

The question

Fire Brigade Westhoek wanted two mobile crisis cases to be able to deploy in the event of a large-scale incident or disaster situation. Crisis cases allow firefighters to look up all the information needed on location to provide assistance in a smooth, efficient and safe manner.

Our answer

It is not only strong>response speed and efficiency that determine the success of emergency response in crisis situations. The availability of data also plays an important role. With the mobile crisis case of e-BO Enterprises, aid workers can consult all the data they need to handle a crisis situation efficiently and safely, wherever they are.

In the event of an accident, disaster or other crisis situation, it is possible to move the case with the appropriate tools and applications to any location. Via a PC, tablet or other authorised device, governments and other users can consult this important information, even while on the road from the car. To do this, they make use of a highly secured central network. Customers of e-BO Enterprises are assured of access to the critical information in their private cloud at all times.

Technical specs

A crisis case contains:

  • 3 telephones linked to the company’s own zonal telephone exchange and with their own dial-in number (1 per case)
  • 1 mobile Cisco router that sets up the connection via 4G (Blue Light Mobile Astrid) with the data centre and the zonal telephone exchange
  • 1 wifi access point on both 2.4G and 5G
  • 2 powerful laptops
  • 2 Astrid radios with earphones
  • 2 phones with an Astrid BLM card

The result

The crisis cases are located in two different places in the zone – in Ypres and Koksijde – and are transported from there to the place of intervention. Thanks to a heavily secured central network, important information can be surfed on the zonal network or the internet in the CP-OPS or CrisisCel. This can be done from an ordinary PC or from a tablet, from the car or from another location.

The fire brigade zone has already used the cases successfully during various interventions: From a large farm fire in Nieuwpoort, to an industrial fire with asbestos in Ramskapelle, and major flooding in Roesbrugge and Stavele. The cases were also used to extend the zonal dispatching during the many spring and autumn storms. The Westhoek fire brigade also used the cases for large events, such as car rallies and summer festivals, and for exercises.

Other Use Cases

e-BO Enterprises draws innovation to the Westhoek with expansion of private 5G network.

e-BO Enterprises is putting its weight behind several innovative 5G projects in the Westhoek as part of a European CEF 5G for Smart Communities project, under the title: 'Flanders Smart Fields'. EBO will take responsibility within this project for the technical rollout of a private 5G network and ensure the integration of innovative applications. A consortium has been set up for this purpose with the POM West Vlaanderen and the Jan Yperman hospital where several pilot projects will be researched and launched. 5G means faster and more stable mobile Internet, enabling new applications, making the Westhoek one of the first fully smartly connected regions in Flanders.
