Tenfold increase of ransomware attacks

During the first six months of 2021, a striking number of large-scale cyberattacks took place, says Fortinet, an American provider of cybersecurity solutions. “The year 2020 already seemed exceptional, with a particularly dramatic wave of attacks in the second half of that year. In the past 12 months, there have been 10,7 times as many ransomware attacks, due to which certain companies were completely controlled by cybercriminals,” the Fortinet study states. “Moreover – and contrary to the general perception –, ransomware is a threat to a much broader range of industries than just health care, the government and education. This evolution shows how difficult it is to eradicate cyber threats and reminds organizations of the fact that they need to stay alert.”
